It is the goal of FMYSA to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for ball players at all skill levels.
For Recreational Baseball, we provide leagues for ages between 3 and 14. The recreational leagues can be split into "American" and "National" divisions at the discretion of the age group director, dividing larger leagues into divisions with the higher skill levels playing in the American Division and lower skill levels playing in the National Division.
Recreational teams are formed each season through a player draft. Coaches may protect up to three players from their previous team. This process provides players with the opportunity to learn from different coaches, build relationships with new teammates, and experience a variety of coaching styles and perspectives. Our goal is to create balanced teams while fostering player development, sportsmanship, and a strong sense of community throughout the league.
In addition to these leagues, for ages 7 through 10 (when participation levels will support it) we also have a premier league offering a higher level of play, although still at a recreational level. Premier level teams are formed based on a skills evaluation and play against other neighboring associations' premier teams. In summer season the premier teams will play in all star tournaments against other premier teams and all star teams.
At the end of the spring season we have an All-Star season which is formed based on try-outs. All players who played on a recreational team at FMYSA in the spring are eligible to tryout and participate in All-Stars.
FMYSA also offers a select program called the "Texas Rattlers".
Rattlers teams are formed by try-out only and all players are chosen by the head coach. Head coaches are experienced coaches with a proven track record of knowledge and experience coaching at a high level.
Rattlers teams participate at various levels based on ranking by USSSA including AA, AAA, Majors, and HIgh School and stay together as a team at the discretion of the head coach and VP of Select Baseball.

The FMYSA Board of Directors met and established a committee of volunteers to formulate a Pitch Count Rule Guideline for all FMYSA pitchers. Below is the agreed to limitations for FMYSA. For now, these rules will be self policed and violatiors will be subject to suspension and loss of practice fields. Any disputes arising from these rules will be sent directly to the aforementioned committee for review and action if necessary.
These are generally Pitch Smart guidelines. The rest of the information is directly from pitch smart (and consistent with a few other sources). The pitch counts are actually a little lower than Pitch Smart to account for a some warm-up and between inning pitches. Also, where we reduced pitch counts from Pitch Smart we consulted with some Rattler coaches in that age group (8U, 9U, 10U, 11U) to see how the proposed counts matched up with current usage and coaches general thoughts. While all Rattler coaches were not involved we did not receive any feedback in opposition.
The proposal related to a player not being able to pitch and catch in the same game comes directly from a Dr. James Andrew study and was logical to everyone on the committee.
The Safety of our players is the most important factor in this decision.

FMYSA will permit the usage of bats that meet USSSA and USA bat standards. Along with these, we will also continue using the BBCOR bats. Please see the following explanation and guidelines for USSSA, USA, and BBCOR bat standards.
USSSA bat standard: USSSA has a formal 1.15 BPF standard for baseball bats used in 14U and below (allowing diameters of up to 2 ¾"). FMYSA will continue to allow the use of these bats in all FMYSA sanctioned events in 14U and below.
USA bat standard: The new USA baseball bat standard (USABat) applies to bats that are classified below the NCAA and NFHS level of play. This was implemented January 1, 2018. All bats used in Little League, Babe Ruth & Cal Ripken, PONY, Dixie or AABC will only accept bats stamped with the USA Baseball stamp. All players 14U and below must have 2-5/8" barrels and be marked with the USABat stamp. This new bat standard has created a new "wood-like" response in aluminum bats.
BBCOR (Bat-Ball Coefficient of Restitution): BBCOR is the standard currently governing adult bats used in high school and collegiate baseball play. BBCOR measures the trampoline effect of the bat. All BBCOR bats carry the "BBCOR Certified .50" mark on the bat. These bats must carry a length to weight ratio that is no greater than -3 and a barrel diameter that does not exceed 2 -5/8".
FMYSA will permit usage of USSSA and USABat for play 14U and under. BBCOR certified bats are required for play 15U and above. This applies to all bats used during play of all events sanctioned by FMYSA.

Flower Mound Youth Sports Association is a proud partner with Wilson and DeMarini Sports.
After further review, and in conjunction with our internal baseball operations, Flower Mound Youth Sports Association will allow the use of the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen CBZ 2 3/4” (-10) bat at all FMYSA Baseball events.
Should more information or other research merit a review of the bat in question, FMYSA reserves the right to examine the data and modify this ruling, if necessary.
Skills evaluations are held every spring for all participants and in the fall for premier league try-outs.
During the skills evaluation every player will be assessed by an impartial coach (usually a rattler's coach or a coach from a different age group) on various skills. Each player's skill level is then added up to achieve an overall score.
These scores are then used to determine which players make the premier league teams (if a player wishes to try our for that team).
The top 10 scores are selected from the list to form the first premier leagues team. The coach of that team may then choose the last two players from amongst the next 5 players. The coach of the premier league team must have a child playing on the team who is within the top 15 players trying out (if any of those parents has requested to be a premier coach).
If it is deemed by the VP of Recreational baseball that there are enough players with appropriate skill levels to field a second premier league team for that age group, the procedure above will be followed again choosing from the next highest scores on the list.
Players who are not chosen for a premier league team and who are not on an existing team's protected roster will then enter the draft in the spring, or be evenly distributed to an existing team in the fall based on skill levels.
To participate in the draft a parent should print out the attached form and bring it to the skills evaluation at the date and time that will be published on the website.
Players chosen for premier league teams will be posted on the website as soon as it is practical to do so. Parents with questions about why their child was chosen for a particular team (or not chosen as the case may be) may contact the VP of Recreational Baseball at vp.bb@fmysa.com.
