Each Spring, an All-Star team for each age group is formed to represent FMYSA during the summer tournament season. Teams are determined through a voluntary tryout process. The highest scoring players at each age group are selected to the team.
All-Star teams typically begin practices mid-May. The coach of the team determines which local tournaments the team will participate. Typically, tournaments are held every weekend in June. Most coaches choose to participate in 3 or 4 tournaments, completing their tournament schedule before July 4th.
The cost to participate is determined by the cost of the uniforms and the number of tournaments which the team participates. Total costs usually fall in the $200 - $300 range.
The coaches are selected from the pool of interested recreational coaches. The coach must be a head coach of a recreational team. Interested coaches must complete an application. In the event multiple coaches are interested in coaching the same age group, an interview process will occur and one coach will be selected to be the head coach.
Tryouts will be held at Bakersfield in mid or late April. Please check calendar for exact date once posted. Email notifications will also be sent.
Tryouts consist of each girl demonstrating their proficiency at:
- Fielding ground balls and throwing to first base
- Tracking and catching pop flies
- Hitting (in the batting cage)
- Baserunning (primarily speed)
- Pitching (for those wanting to tryout for pitcher)
- Catching (for those wanting to tryout for catcher)
The girls are given a numerical score for each skill by third-party evaluators. Those with the highest combined scores make the team.
