FMYSA has experienced an unusual amount of poor sportsmanship and behavior by parents and coaches so far this season. We would like to remind everyone that these games are for the kids, and that adults are setting an example with their behavior. If parents (or anyone at the fields) yell at, belittle, or in some other way show strong disrespect for umpires, those adults will be ejected from the fields, and will be suspended from at least one more game. Coaches are responsible for the behavior of their players and parents, so the head coach of that team is subject to a suspension as well. Any coach (head or assistant) ejected from a game, will automatically be suspended from the next game their team plays.

Please step back and consider your behavior. We are role models for the kids around us, whether we want to be or not. The league has established a code of ethics for all players, parents and coaches and it is expected that all the above mentioned will honor their commitment to this rule set. If you believe an umpire is doing a very poor job, please keep quiet at the field, and contact the age group director or one of the board members after the game. We will investigate and take action if warranted.

As we wind down this Spring 2008 season, the topic of umpires and umpiring has been brought to the Board's attention. This has been brought on by some unfortunate situations with fans, coaches and umpires. The league has arranged to have a meeting with the Head of Umpires for our Recreational league. We are looking for volunteers interested to ask questions, discuss the issues they see on the baseball field, as well as hear what the Head of Umpires expects from his umpires while at the field. The meeting will not happen until sometime in June. There will be an even amount of people from coach pitch leagues as well as our kid pitch age groups. Hopefully it will be a good mix of coaches and parents. Please email Greg Axelrod at dorlexaent@aol.com with your interest.
