Baseball Coaches

Well, folks, it's that time of year again. Is there really anything more fun and exciting than coaching a team? We've made some changes this year to help get the season underway and get all the ducks in a row.

This section of the Web site is designed to make your life a little easier during the registration process.

We realize many of you are experienced veterans with FMYSA and many of you are applying for the first time. So we ask that everyone review the steps below.

Step 1: Review All of the Following Steps and the Key Dates
The first step is to review all of the steps listed below and look at the key parent and coaches dates. Reviewing the steps are critical because of new rules and requirements this season.

Other key areas you must review due to changes are as follows:

Coaches Handbook
Age Group Rules - Baseball
Coaches Certification Dates
Coaches Application
(Must be completed by the day of In-Person Registration by ALL Coaches)
Step 2: Turn in Coach's Application and Protected Roster.
All coaches (new and veterans) must fill out the Coach's Application and Protected Roster Forms and turn them into their Age Group Directors by the day of In-Person Registration.

The best way to do this is to come to In-Person Registration. If your Age Group Director is not present, turn the forms in to the FMYSA representative working at the Coaches Table.

If you're a coach applying for the first time or if you didn't coach last fall, please read the First-Time Coaches section.

Playing Up
Playing up is a privilege, and FMYSA will not take the responsibility for ensuring that your child will play up. You must find a "sponsoring" coach who will place the player on their "protected" roster and have the roster submitted at the In-Person registration.

Protected Roster
The protected roster procedure has changed this year. We require each coach to fill out the form COMPLETELY, including all of the coach information.

We recognize that some of you won't know who all of your Assistant Coaches will be at the time you turn in the roster. However, if you're selected as a Head Coach, you MUST provide the required information by the Coach's Meeting.

Player Registration
ALL PLAYERS MUST REGISTER. Last season we had a number of players whose names appeared on protected rosters but the children themselves hadn't been registered. We STRONGLY recommend that you remind your parents that they must complete the registration process even if they are on a protected roster.

Children who aren't registered by the close of registration will not be allowed to play in the Spring season.

Step 3: Complete a Coach's Application
Even if you have been a coach in the past, ALL coach's must complete this application.

Due to the recent Town of Flower Mound contract with FMYSA, all head coach's must be NYSCA Certified and clear a background check as follows: (TBD)

Step 4: Age Group Directors Announce Coaches
All Age Group Directors will announce coaches by February 1st.

Remember, not being selected to be a Head Coach this season this does not mean you cannot become a Head Coach the future. There are numerous opportunities in your age group to become an Assistant Coach. Speak with your Age Group Director about these possibilities.

Step 5 - NYSCA Certification
All coaches must be NYSCA (National Youth Sports Coaches Association) certified prior to the beginning of the Spring season. The FMYSA certification clinics dates are as follows:

Not Certified
FMYSA makes it easy to get certified through our clinics. There are a number of clinics that will be held prior to the start of the season. If not certified, you MUST become certified before the season begins.

Certified In The Past
If you've been certified in the past, you MUST have renewed your NYSCA membership. You can renew online. You MUST be certified to coach in the Spring season.

The Forms
Registration Forms
Coach's Application
(Must be completed by the day of In-Person Registration by ALL Coaches)

Protected Roster
When downloading the protected roster form, you may have to adjust the size based on your printer. Please one page only. This protected roster should be used for ALL age groups. No other protected roster forms will be accepted.
Playing Up Forms
No play up forms are required. Coach's must turn in a protected roster with the player choosing to play up.
Uniforms and Hats

Our due date for ordering uniforms is February 13th. We need all coaches uniform sizes by February 9th. Please make every attempt to communicate this information on your protected roster. If you haven't identified all of your Assistant Coaches, you need to communicate with you Age Group Director by February 11th.

We provide 3 adult uniforms for each team for Age Groups 5 through 8 and 2 adult uniforms for Age Groups 9 and older.

All additional adult uniforms are $25 each. You MUST identify any additional uniform needs by the February 11th.

Please note that we will order the following uniform sizes if the Head Coach does not provide uniform information by the February 11th.

  • Age Groups 5 thru 8
(2 Adult XL and 1 Adult XXL)
  • Age Groups 9 and up
(1 Adult XL and 1 Adult XXL)
Coach's Certification
All Head Coaches must be NYSCA certified and provide FMYSA with proof of certification. Your certification must be current prior to the beginning of the official season start.

You can check FMYSA's understanding of your certification status on our Web site.

Certification Status

To determine if you need to renew, just add 1 year to your certification date shown. Your certification must be current for the entire season. You can renew with NYSCA online.

If you are a new coach or have never been certified, you must do so before the season begins. FMYSA will offer numerous certification classes prior to the the start of the season. Please check the FMYSA certification online.

We STRONGLY recommend that you have your Assistant Coaches get certified, if for no other reason than the $1,000,000 excess liability insurance. Notwithstanding that we feel the knowledge gained is worth the time and leads to a better overall association. Please let your Assistant Coaches know about this certification.
