FMYSA Select & Recreational Pitch Count Rules

The FMYSA Board of Directors met and established a committee of volunteers to formulate a Pitch Count Rule Guideline for all FMYSA pitchers. Below is the agreed to limitations for FMYSA. For now, these rules will be self policed and violatiors will be subject to suspension and loss of practice fields. Any disputes arising from these rules will be sent directly to the aforementioned committee for review and action if necessary.

These are generally Pitch Smart guidelines. The rest of the information is directly from pitch smart (and consistent with a few other sources). The pitch counts are actually a little lower than Pitch Smart to account for a some warm-up and between inning pitches. Also, where we reduced pitch counts from Pitch Smart we consulted with some Rattler coaches in that age group (8U, 9U, 10U, 11U) to see how the proposed counts matched up with current usage and coaches general thoughts. While all Rattler coaches were not involved we did not receive any feedback in opposition.

The proposal related to a player not being able to pitch and catch in the same game comes directly from a Dr. James Andrew study and was logical to everyone on the committee.

The Safety of our players is the most important factor in this decision.
